Lightmare

Vision: The scene is composed masterfully. Amazing use of thirds with no unnecessary distractions in the background. Light attracts the eye, and even if viewer wanders around the artwork there's no easy way to go off the edge. Monochromatic palette works great and doesn't tire eyes. There's also the question "Why wings underwater?", but who cares, it's angler fish catching a fairy.

Originality: Definitely like nothing I've seen before. Angler fish and fairy look pretty generic. One could argue the dress is boring, but candy overdose isn't good either.

Technique: Going to start this off with something that bothers me the most. I'm always hesitant about that things in case it's intentional. The face has awkward proportions. Human face has eyes in the middle of 'the face plane' and mouth about quarter from the chin. Big nose doesn't work with fairies. Now... the paint job is absolutely amazing, main focal point is filled with detail and clearly recognizable shapes. Good choice not overdoing the fish as well, since that would attract too much attention. The danger is visible, but feels distant. Difference in detail creates illusion of camera lens and impression of space.

Impact: The piece makes me think. I create little stories in my mind smiling at silliness of "Ohh.. shiny!". Also I'm pretty sure it plays neat trick on people who are afraid of open water.
