Description
This is the second part of a collaboration I have done with , so be sure to go check out her channel! She designed the piece, and I've done linework and coloration. This is a concept for an anthro version of Rarity, in her role as a mage/priestess.
I'm still not quite happy with my choice of colors for the clothing, bit I think this one did turn out much better than the Twilight picture. I did really enjoy the challenge of trying to make things look shiny and silky with only cell shading though.
I am going to request critique for this piece, but since most of it was just me coloring over someone else's picture, I don't exactly get props for originality. Instead, I would like to ask for critique on my color choices and shading technique. I don't usually do cell shading, and it's a bit outside my comfort zone. For those of you reading this who plan to leave critique, or feed back in general, I would like to ask your opinion.

First of all this is a awesome piece but you wanted serieous critique on the colours and shading technique so here it is
colour choice:
i think you picked, on most places, the perfect colours. they really reflect rarity and i love the ombre look of the blue dress. If you are looking at contrast i have troubles with the purple underdress because it is exactly the same colour as her hair. maybe a little bit darker purple or a dark blue would give it a bit more contrast.
also the contrast with her left leg and the backside of the blue dress is missing. it would give it a bit more depth if the inside of the dress was a bit darker.
shading technique:
i think you did the shell shading really good especially if you know you don't have much experiance with it. for improving it, you could make a little bit more details in the hair with the cell-shading. you have light parts and dark parts with a shine on it. but a little more detail with shell-shading makes it a bit more fitting with the rest of the drawing.
the last thing is the stiff feel of the blue dress. i think it's because the most upper fold of the fabric. it's falling not down but a bit to much to the left. because it's not falling naturally it makes it feel a bit stiff.
I hope this will help. if you have any questions you are always welcome to ask
